About Us

The Development Literacy Institute (DLI) is a transformative Pan-African institution established in 2018 that operates at the intersection of academia and civil society. We offer innovative solutions in the rule of law, economic development and technology to drive sustainable development across the continent. We aim to empower individuals and institutions through education, research, and strategic initiatives that align with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
Our work spans four key thematic areas:
  1. Rule of Law, Governance and Leadership for Sustainable Development
      • Strengthening Institutions: We support institutional building and reforms to enhance governance and the rule of law across various sectors.
      • Leadership Development: Our programs foster the next generation of African leaders committed to justice and sustainable development.
      • Anti-Corruption Initiatives: We conduct legal assessments and research to combat corruption and promote transparency in governance.
    1. Education for Sustainable Development
      • Capacity Building Initiatives: DLI offers a range of tailored courses and training on topics such as public-private partnerships, global health policy and law, and climate change.
      • Policy Influence: Our research products, including discussion papers and policy briefs, shape educational practices and inform policy decisions.
      • Community Engagement: We organize educational outreach programs to empower local communities and foster sustainable development.
    2. Information and Communications Technology for Development (ICT4D)
      • Bridging the Digital Divide: DLI provides digital literacy training and equitable access to technology for inclusive participation in the digital economy.
      • Innovative Solutions: We support the ethical and responsible implementation of ICT projects and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to address challenges in various sectors.
      • Local Entrepreneurship: Collaborating with local startups, DLI promotes innovation and job creation in the technology sector.
      • Digital Rights Advocacy: We advocate for the protection of digital rights and freedoms to ensure all citizens benefit from technology.
    3. Legal Frameworks for Economic Development
      • Policy and Advisory: DLI provides advisory services on international, regional and national development policy frameworks.
      • Legal-Institutional Reform: We offer guidance on legal frameworks and institutions (LFIs) for sustainable development.
      • Development Function of Key Stakeholders: We advise on the role of government, CSOs and the private sector in development functions.
      • Development Principles: DLI focuses on public participation, planning law, management principles and access to information.
      • Financing and Project Management: We guide financing strategies, program design and proposal preparation for sustainable development initiatives.
